zakynthos festivals are related to religious ceremonies. The two annual
majors festivals are both a celebration of the Saint Patron of Zakynthos,
Agios Dionysios. The corpse of Agios Dionysios is kept in the church
of the same name.
The first of the festivals on Zakynthos Greece takes place every 24th of August and celebrates
the memory of the transportation of the Holy Body of the Saint in
the church of Agios Dionysios from the island of Strofadia.
The second of the festivals takes place the 17th of December and honours
the date of the death of Agios Dionysios.
Both of these Zakynthos festivals attract thousands of people from
all over the island and each festival last three days.
